On the Fractal Structure of the Visible Universe

چکیده
Some years ago we proposed a new approach for the analysis of galaxy and cluster correlations based on the concepts and methods of modern Statistical Physics. This led to the surprising result that galaxy correlations are fractal and not homogeneous up to the limits of the available catalogues. In the meantime many more redshifts have been measured and we have extended our methods also to the analysis of number counts and angular catalogues. This has led to a complete analysis of all the available data that we are going to present in detail in this lecture. In particular we will discuss the properties of the following catalogues: CfA, PerseusPisces, SSRS, IRAS, Stromlo-APM, LEDA, Las Campanas and ESP for galaxies and Abell and ACO for clusters. The result is that galaxy structures are highly irregular and self-similar. The usual statistical methods, based on the assumption of homogeneity, are therefore inconsistent for all the length scales probed until now. A new, more general, conceptual framework is necessary to identify the real physical properties of these structures. In the range of self-similarity theories should shift from ”amplitudes” to ”exponents”. The new analysis shows that all the available data are consistent with each other and show fractal correlations (with dimension D ≃ 2) up to the deepest scales probed until now (1000hMpc) and even more as indicated from the new interpretation of the number counts. The distribution of visible matter in the universe is therefore fractal and not homogeneous. The evidence for this being very strong up to 150hMpc due to the statistical robustness of the data and progressively weaker (statistically) at larger distances due to the limited data. In addition the luminosity distribution is correlated with the space distribution in a specific way characterized by multifractal properties. These facts lead to fascinating conceptual implications about our knowledge of the universe and to a new scenario for the theoretical challenge in this

A study on dimensions of Fractal geometry in Iranian architecture
The subject of geometry and proportions has been regarded as an issue which has a close relationship with architecture. Since the entire universe, living beings and the human geometry can be seen clearly, that’s why our unconscious essence has accustomed to these proportions whereby reflection of this mentality can be seen in the architect’s hands and thought in the architecture. It can witness...
متن کاملTransmission properties of one dimensional fractal structures
In this paper, the optical properties of one dimensional fractal structures are investigated. We consider six typical fractal photonic structures: the symmetric dual cantor-like fractal structure, the asymmetric dual cantor-like fractal structure, the single cantor-like fractal structure, the symmetric dual golden-section fractal structure, the asymmetric dual golden-section fractal structure a...
متن کاملDetermination of Agricultural Sulfur Effects on the Soil Structure Using Fractal Geometery and Aggregate Stability Indices
Due to unsuitable soil physical conditions, calcareous soils, and the existence of a huge amount of sulfur in the country, the study of sulfur effects on the soil structure and other soil properties is necessary. Therefore, the effects of different rates of sulfur including: 0, 750, 1500 and 3000 kg/ha, when accompanied by Halothiobacillus neapolitanus bacteria, on the soil properties in the co...
متن کاملPore surface fractal dimension of sol-gel derived nanoporous SiO2-ZrO2 membrane
In this work, SiO2 –ZrO2 mixed oxides was prepared by the polymeric sol–gel route. The characterization of pore structure, which determines the permeation process of membrane, is of great importance. So far, most investigations have focused on such pore structure as specific surface area and pore size distribution, but the surface fractal, the important parameter reflecting the roughness of por...
متن کاملAssessment the Effect of Exposure Conditions and Geometry Parameters on Calculated Fractal Dimension of Mandibular Bone
Introduction: One of the fractal analysis methods to examine the structure of a texture is fractal dimension (F.D.) measurement. F.D is a quantitative method to show the complexity of a structure using a number. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different exposure conditions, voltages and angle of x-ray tube on F.D. values of mandibular bone. Methods: This lab-trial analytic...

In this paper, a parametric study of conventional Uniplanar Compact Photonic Band Gap (UC-PBG) structures, with different dimensions, is investigated. The studied structure operates as an Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) in which the performance is mainly characterized by the resonant frequency and bandwidth. Simulation and numerical analysis have been carried out using CST Microwave Studio ...
